ReelsmithPrivacy Policy
Reelsmith is designed so that your videos, images and audio stay on your computer. This page explains what data is involved when you use the website.
Your media files
- Files you import are read by your browser directly from your device. They are not uploaded to Reelsmith or anyone else.
- Previews, effects, captions and exports are calculated on your device.
- Exported videos are written to your device (a folder you choose, or your Downloads folder).
Data stored in your browser
Reelsmith stores the following in your browser's local storage so the app works between visits. It never leaves your device unless you choose to download it:
- Projects you save (edits, titles, settings — not the media files themselves).
- Permission handles that let Chrome and Edge reopen media files you already chose.
- An automatic backup of unsaved work, and your preferences (panel layout, last export settings).
- The caption engine and speech models, if you used Auto-generate Captions. Remove them any time from Captions ▸ Remove Caption Engine.
Clearing your browser's data for reelsmithapp.com deletes all of this.
Auto captions
The first time you generate captions, the speech-recognition software and model are downloaded from jsDelivr and Hugging Face. Those services see a normal download request (such as your IP address). Your audio is processed on your device and is never sent to them.
Bug reports and feature requests
If you send a report, we receive what you type, the email address if you give one, and — for bug reports, only if you leave the box ticked — technical details (browser version, screen size, sequence size and recent error messages). No media files are sent. Reports are stored as private issues on GitHub, which we use to track them, and are used only to improve Reelsmith and to reply to you.
Hosting
The website is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical request data (IP address, browser type, time of request) to deliver and protect the site.
Cookies and advertising
Reelsmith does not set tracking cookies today. If we add advertising or analytics in the future, this policy will be updated first and, where required, you will be asked for consent.
Children
Reelsmith is a general-audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
