Applying effects

Ways to apply

• Drag the effect onto a clip in the timeline.
• Drag it onto the Effect Controls panel (applies to the clip shown there).
• Drag it onto the picture in the Program monitor (applies to the clip under the pointer).
• Select a clip, then double-click the effect — or click it and press Apply to selected clip. With nothing selected, it applies to the clip under the playhead.

After applying, the clip is selected, Effect Controls opens, and the effect appears as a chip at the top (for example fx Sepia). Click the chip's × to remove that effect.

Fine-tune

Effects set properties you can adjust in Effect Controls (for example Sepia sets Stylize ▸ Sepia to 85%). Reset all effects at the bottom of Effect Controls returns the clip to normal.

Shortcuts show the Mac keys: on Windows and Linux use Ctrl for ⌘ and Alt for ⌥.
