Exporting a video
Press ⌘M or click Export.
The quick way
Click Export in the top bar, then Export in the dialog. That's it: the whole sequence is exported with the Match Source preset. Chrome and Edge then ask where to save the file; Safari and Firefox save it to your Downloads folder.
Settings
- Preset: Match Source, YouTube 1080p or 4K, Shorts/Reels/TikTok (9:16), Instagram Square or Portrait, Vimeo, X 720p, or a small review copy.
- File name and Location: type the name; Chrome and Edge let you pick the folder when you click Export (other browsers use Downloads).
- Format: H.264 MP4 (plays everywhere) or WebM.
- Frame size: pick Match sequence or a standard size from the list — 4K UHD, QHD, Full HD, HD, SD, vertical 9:16 sizes, Square 1:1, Portrait 4:5 or DCI cinema sizes. Choose Custom… to type your own width × height. Choosing a preset sets this for you.
- Quality: High, Medium or Low (smaller file).
- Range: Entire Sequence (default — nothing to set up), Sequence In/Out, the selected clips, or Custom. To export only part, drag the orange In and Out handles on the range bar under Range (the preview shows the frame at the handle) or type the timecodes. You don't need to go back to the timeline.
- Render: see Fast vs. real-time export.
- Mute speakers while exporting.
The summary shows the resulting size, range and estimated file size. If the output shape differs from the sequence (for example a 9:16 preset on a 16:9 sequence), the picture is letterboxed — change Sequence Settings to reframe instead.
Click Export. A progress window shows the percentage and speed; Cancel export stops and removes the partial file.
Shortcuts show the Mac keys: on Windows and Linux use Ctrl for ⌘ and Alt for ⌥.
