Lift, Extract, Q/W, Match Frame and track targeting

Track targeting

Click a track's name badge (V1, A1 …) to target or untarget it. Filled badges are targeted. Targeted tracks are used by Lift, Extract, Q/W, Match Frame and Insert/Overwrite from the Source monitor.

Lift and Extract

Set In and Out points (I, O), then:

  • ; Lift: removes that range from targeted tracks and leaves a gap.
  • ' Extract: removes it and closes the gap.

Ripple trim to the playhead

  • Q: removes from the start of the clip under the playhead up to the playhead, closing the gap.
  • W: removes from the playhead to the end of that clip, closing the gap.

Match Frame

F opens the clip under the playhead in the Source monitor at the exact same frame.

Three-point editing

In the Source monitor mark In (and optionally Out). If the sequence has an In point, Insert (,) / Overwrite (.) place the clip there; if the sequence also has an Out point and the source has no Out, the sequence range sets the length.

Replace Edit

Hold Alt while dropping media onto a timeline clip to replace its footage but keep its position, length and effects. Or load a clip in the Source monitor and right-click a timeline clip ▸ Replace With Source Monitor Clip.

Shortcuts show the Mac keys: on Windows and Linux use Ctrl for ⌘ and Alt for ⌥.
