Smooth playback: playback resolution and proxies

Playback resolution

In the Program monitor, set Full, 1/2 or 1/4. Lower settings render a smaller picture while playing for smooth playback of heavy edits; paused frames and exports are always full quality.

Proxies

Proxies are small copies of your video files used only for editing.

1. Select video files in the Project panel ▸ right-click ▸ Create Proxies (or Sequence ▸ Create Proxies for Selected Media).
2. When they are ready, Proxies in the Program monitor turns on. Click it to switch between proxies and originals.

Proxies are available in the desktop app only. Exports always use the full-quality original files. Items with a proxy show proxy ✓ in the Project panel.

Shortcuts show the Mac keys: on Windows and Linux use Ctrl for ⌘ and Alt for ⌥.
