Fun & shape transitions

Besides the classic transitions, Effects ▸ Video Transitions has Flash, Blur Dissolve, Zoom In/Out, Spin, Whip Pan, Push Right/Up/Down, Bounce In, Clock Wipe, Split (Barn Door), Diamond Iris, Heart Iris, Film Burn, Glitch and Pixelate.

Effects ▸ Shape Transitions (Color Bars, Diagonal Stripes, Rising Bars, Spinning Squares, Circle Burst) sweep coloured shapes over the cut; the picture changes while the screen is covered. Click the transition on the timeline to change its Main / Second / Edge colours and duration in Effect Controls.

Drag any transition onto the cut between two clips, exactly like Cross Dissolve.

Shortcuts show the Mac keys: on Windows and Linux use Ctrl for ⌘ and Alt for ⌥.
