Zooming and the zoom scroll bar

Zoom scroll bar

The bar at the bottom of the timeline shows which part of the sequence is visible.

  • Drag the middle to scroll.
  • Drag the right round handle left to zoom in (clips get longer) or right to zoom out (clips get shorter). The left handle works the same way.
  • Click the empty track to jump there; double-click to fit the whole sequence.

Other ways to zoom

  • = / - zoom in and out; \ fits the sequence.
  • ⌘ + scroll zooms around the pointer.
  • The zoom slider and buttons in the timeline toolbar.

Auto-fit

While Auto-fit is on, the timeline zooms itself so every clip stays visible as your edit grows. Zooming manually turns it off; press \ or click Auto-fit to turn it back on.

Shortcuts show the Mac keys: on Windows and Linux use Ctrl for ⌘ and Alt for ⌥.
