The Source monitor

The Source monitor previews one media file so you can choose exactly which part to use.

Mark the part you want

1. Double-click a clip in the Project panel. The Source tab opens.
2. Play or click in the bar under the picture to find the start. Press I (Mark In).
3. Find the end and press O (Mark Out). The highlighted range is what you will use.

Put it in the timeline

• Insert (,): places the range at the playhead and pushes everything after it later.
• Overwrite (.): places the range at the playhead, replacing what is there.
• Or drag the Drag to timeline handle onto any track.

Dragging the item from the Project panel also uses the In/Out marks you set here.

I and O work in the Source monitor when it is the active panel (click inside it first). In the timeline they set the sequence In/Out instead.

Shortcuts show the Mac keys: on Windows and Linux use Ctrl for ⌘ and Alt for ⌥.
