Importing media
Ways to import
- File ▸ Import Media… or
⌘I. - The Import button in the Project panel.
- Drag files from a folder on your computer onto the Project panel.
- Drag files from a folder straight onto a timeline track: they are imported and placed where you drop them, one after another.
While importing, Reelsmith reads each file's duration and size, makes a thumbnail and analyses the audio waveform. Importing the same file twice reuses the existing item.
Supported formats
- Video: MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV, OGV with codecs your browser can decode (H.264, HEVC/H.265, VP8, VP9, AV1).
- Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG, FLAC, Opus.
- Images: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, BMP, SVG, AVIF.
ProRes and AVI files are generally not supported. If a file is rejected, convert it to H.264 MP4 first.
Audio detection
Video files without a sound track are marked no audio and are placed without an audio clip.
Shortcuts show the Mac keys: on Windows and Linux use Ctrl for ⌘ and Alt for ⌥.
